Mark Steyn writes two excellent pieces that are intertwined: is the real climategate problem the fact that such a hoax, such a lie, such a bamboozlement of the American public could have been perpetuated for so long only with the help of a negligent, or at least politically motivated, mainstream media? And of course in the face of it all he is called a liar. Not unexpected. His response?

“Oh, phooey. To take up your dreary analogy, we’re staying in our seats enjoying the show while the environmental correspondents run for the exits shrieking ever more hysterically. If you want to flee in terror and roll around in the snow trying to put out imaginary flames, by all means take as long as you like, and then, when the fever passes, feel free to come back in dripping wet. But it’s a bit of a stretch to call me a liar when you’re the one insisting your pants are on fire.”

My question is how does this happen under the watchful journalistic eye of agencies such as, oh lets use the Associated Press as an example, routinely sending literary geniuses and investigators off at light speed on missions such as tearing  into Sarah Palin’s “Going Rogue” for the sake of all that is good. And all the while a major story like the unscrupulous manipulation of false data for political and monetary gain sits untouched.

We should be careful. The next thing you know they will be manipulating elections so their guy gets the job.
